Reseda Boulevard headed for a $17M makeover

City officials approved a plan to improve a dilapidated 2.5-mile stretch

The City of Los Angeles has greenlit a $17 million street improvement project that will drastically upgrade a 2.5-mile stretch of Reseda Boulevard in the San Fernando Valley.

As part of the project, the city will reconstruct damaged sidewalks and pavement that has made it unsafe for bikers and pedestrians, Urbanize reported.

The project will also include adding new left-turn signals and creating bus boarding islands to make it easier for riders. For every tree that is removed, the city will plant two new ones.

The Department of Transportation and Bureau of Engineering are designing the proposed changes for Reseda Boulevard.

City Council member Bob Blumenfield has been spearheading the project, which will span from Victory Boulevard to Parthenia Street. Safety is among the biggest driving forces for the improvement project, given that more than 50 people were killed or severely injured while travelling on Reseda Boulevard between 2009 and 2017.
