Step aside Elon Musk tunnel: Aerial tram to Dodger Stadium moving forward

Metro to work on routes and other details of tram, an alternative to Musk’s Loop

Underground or by air? Dodger’s fans could have two, not just one, new way to get to Dodger Stadium and avoid Los Angeles’ notorious traffic.

Metro is moving forward with a private company called Aerial Rapid Transit Technologies that wants to build a tram connecting the Stadium to Union Station. The agency has signed a letter of intent with ARTT that allows it to start negotiations, according to Curbed.

If the project stays on track, it could be completed by 2022.

Just a few months ago, Boring Company CEO Elon Musk announced he wanted to build a Loop tunnel connecting the stadium to a terminus near a Metro Red Line station. The project has the support of Mayor Eric Garcetti and is currently undergoing environmental review.

The project would be privately funded and operated. ARTT asked Metro to “take the lead role in the procedural requirements for route selection and right of way,” according to Curbed.

Metro now runs free shuttle buses between Union Station and the stadium, which is easy to reach by car but more difficult to reach by public transit.

The Dodger Stadium project isn’t the only tram that local officials are pursuing. In October the City Council instructed staffers to study the feasibility of an aerial tram to and from the Hollywood Sign to ease traffic around Griffith Park. [Curbed] – Dennis Lynch
