A production company that built the studios where the original “Melrose Place” filmed has found a new location for its growing operation.

Santa Clarita Studios has expanded its presence in the Santa Clarita Valley with a new 109,380-square-foot industrial space in Valencia, a neighborhood in Santa Clarita. The deal was announced Wednesday.

The independent studio operator inked a seven-year lease for the building, which is owned by real estate investment firm Heitman LLC. It was previously occupied by a printing company.

Located at 28210 Avenue Stanford, the recently renovated property includes high ceilings and a large yard area that make it suitable for filming. There’s also space for 245 vehicles.

Santa Clarita Studios, led by president Mike DeLorenzo, already operate 19 sound stages nearby at 25135 Anza Drive. It is the largest full-service, independent studio operator in the Santa Clarita Valley, DeLorenzo said in a statement.

Craig Peters and Sam Glendon at CBRE represented the tenant. Peters also represented the landlord.

The studio’s expansion in the region comes amid a surge in on-location filming in Santa Clarita, which is about 30 miles from Los Angeles. Between July 2017 and June 2018, the number of film permits increased 2.8 percent to 560, while film days increased about 9 percent to 1377, CBRE said in a release.

In addition to “Melrose Place,” Santa Clarita Studios have been used for films like 2018’s “A Wrinkle in Time” and “Atypical,” as well as for television shows like “Santa Clarita Diet,” “S.W.A.T.,” and “Switched at Birth.”
