Long Beach planners have pushed forward a project by Urbana Development to construct a 100,000-square-foot office building at the headquarters of tech firm Laserfiche.

Designed by Studio One Eleven, the new campus will be in the Bixby Knolls community along Long Beach Boulevard. The project, approved last week by the Long Beach Planning Commission, will be the first new-construction office building on that stretch in nearly 30 years.

The building is Laserfiche’s fourth structure in the area. It is scheduled to be complete in 2021.

Laserfiche, which moved its headquarters to Long Beach in 2001, provides business processing and information management software. The company expects to double the number of employees at the location from 300 to 600 by 2025.

Michael Bohn, a senior principal at Studio One Eleven, said the building will capture the firm’s role in the tech world, and it will establish a cornerstone for the Long Beach Boulevard Creative Corridor. Current tenants on the corridor include design and construction firm Howard CDM, creative branding company Summerjax, and a co-working space in the Mid-Century Clock Building.

Long Beach has a seen a big development push recently, including for office space. In November, Redwood Partners bought a recently renovated office campus there for $60.5 million.

The city has also become an increasingly hot market for residential projects. Long Beach, for example, is working on a 157-unit mixed-use complex proposed by Anastasi Development Company.
