The five priciest homes to hit the market in Los Angeles last week include four spec mansions, and combined, the list totals $147.5 million. The amount was only slightly less than the previous week’s total.
Countywide, an increasing number of sellers are looking to unload their high-priced homes, as at least 19 hit the market asking more than $10 million. One of the most striking homes is a Bel Air mansion shaped like a propeller, which first hit the market at the end of last year.
The data and information was compiled from the Multiple Listings Service and Redfin dating from Sept. 9-16.
11490 Orum Road | Bel Air | $56 million
The propeller-like modern home hit the MLS again last week after first landing on it in December. It was delisted in July and has reappeared with the same asking price that developer Duangpatra Bodiratnangkura initially put out, suggesting it was delisted for a sale that did not close. The sleek, nearly 19,000-square-foot home, has three wings and is the largest work by architect Zoltan Pali, founder of SPF: Architects. The home has nine bedrooms, 10 full bathrooms, and 5 partial bathrooms, along with parking for 30 cars. Michelle Oliver with Douglas Elliman has the listing.

This narrow beachfront home on Malibu’s coveted Colony Beach dates from the mid-1980s, spans 4,631 square feet, and includes five bedrooms and bathrooms. The property comes with city-approved plans for a new 6,000-square-foot home with seven bedrooms and bathrooms, a guesthouse, and a pool. The beach is about 100 feet from the existing back porch.

Sales have slowed for spec homes in the once-ultra hot Bird Streets neighborhood, but new ones do continue to hit the market. This four-bedroom, seven-bathroom home spans just under 10,100 square feet. Like many other modern-style homes, there’s an open floor plan and floor-to-ceiling windows throughout much of the house. The property features many of the go-to amenities seen in spec homes around L.A., including a wine cellar, bar, gym, and infinity pool.

Less than a mile from the sleek spec home on Thrasher Avenue is this similarly large new construction Spanish revival-style mansion. The home sits behind a gated entrance and features four bedrooms and eight bathrooms, wood floors and arched entryways between rooms. There’s also an 800-bottle wine cellar, a library, and a swimming pool.
