“American Idol” creator sees $4M gain on Bel Air estate sale

It took over a year and numerous price chops, but Simon Fuller is now singing all the way to the bank.

The creator of “American Idol” closed Feb. 28 on the sale of his 11,200-square-foot Chalon Road mansion in Bel Air for $28 million, according to an alert from Redfin citing MLS data. That’s well below the initial $37.5 million asking price Fuller had set for the property when it was a pocket listing, but $4 million more than what he paid for it in 2014.

The seven-bedroom, seven-bath home was officially listed for $35 million with Hilton & Hyland’s Drew Fenton in January 2019. The price was chopped to $32.5 million in November.

The 92-year-old Chalon Road estate was designed by prolific L.A. architect Gordon Kaufmann, best known for his work on the Hoover Dam and the Greystone Mansion in Beverly Hills. Several celebrities have owned it over the years, including actress Lori Loughlin and her husband designer J. Mossimo Giannulli. The home lies on a 1.6-acre parcel and features 14-foot-high ceilings, a wood-paneled library and an entry hall with the original floating staircase.

Fenton shared the listing with his colleague Trista Rullan, according to Redfin. The unidentified buyer was represented by Valia Properties’ Timothy Tamura.
