LA restaurants, movies, gyms now open for — indoor — business

Los Angeles County businesses reopened Monday for indoor dining, working out, movie watching and more.

California health officials last week set new criteria for several types of businesses to reopen in most counties, including the goal of administering 2 million Covid vaccines across the state.

The state hit that mark, allowing restaurants, movie theaters and gyms, among other businesses, to reopen — with restrictions — for indoor activities, according to the Los Angeles Daily News.

Orange and San Bernardino counties allowed businesses to reopen on Sunday.

The decision prompted lines outside restaurants and movie theaters, the Daily News reported.

Breweries, wineries, and distilleries are among the businesses that were allowed to reopen at 12:01 a.m. Monday morning.

Restaurants can allow a maximum of 25 percent of customers while gyms have a far more severe 10 percent capacity. Malls can allow 50 percent of customers.

It’s the second time L.A. County has tried to reopen those businesses. Most reopened at limited capacities over last summer, but that came to an end as the number of Covid cases in the county and across the state started to rise in the autumn.

The situation became so dire that the state issued a stay-at-home order in early December that extended through the early part of this year.
