Daren Hornig is moving on. The former chief executive of residential brokerage Dwelling Quest recently sold his interest in the firm to Century 21 franchisee Michael Simon, who merged it with Century 21 Kevin B. Brown & Associates to form a new brokerage (see Slow market increases merger activity).

Hornig now works with Shea Commercial, the nation’s largest developer of office condos. A managing partner of Shea Commercial, he’ll be opening up its New York area business to focus on developing and investing in commercial, residential and hospitality projects. Most of Shea Commercial’s projects have been in the Southwest, but Hornig says the firm is looking for market diversification.

Hornig says he’ll still have some involvement in his Quest group of companies. Although he sold his interest in Dwelling Quest, Hornig has control over parent company the Quest Group and Quest Commercial, along with partner Shea. “The vast majority of all my time and efforts are going to be doing development transactions and investment transactions,” Hornig said.

Shea and Hornig are working on their first joint New York residential development. The Prime is a high-end luxury condo building located in the Meatpacking District at 333 West 14th Street.
