Plans for convention center condo complex scrapped

Plans for a 16-story hotel and condo complex at the Palm Beach County Convention Center in downtown West Palm Beach, slated to include 104 apartments, have been downsized to a three- to four-story office building, in light of the ailing real estate market. The revision is expected to hurt the long-term economic development potential for the project, which was meant to be a crucial step in helping the county’s tourism industry. The project, expected to be finalized in 2010, was budgeted for $40 million, but now may cost less than $35 million.
