Palm Beach officials are protesting two large projects proposed for the West Palm Beach waterfront, citing traffic and density problems and the additional burden of supplying drinking water to the buildings. One of the projects, the Modern at 1515 South Flagler Drive, would be a 391-foot residential tower, nearly 100 feet taller than the hurricane-damaged condo currently on the site. The other, Opera Place at 419 Lakeview Avenue, would bring a pair of 36-story mixed-use towers with residential, retail, hotel and office components. The town registered its opposition to Opera Place at an April 7 City Commission Meeting; it will do the same with the proposed Modern project on May 19.
