Nearly 1.6 million square feet of big-box industrial space is on the market for subleasing in Broward County, as the sluggish economy has caused many tenants to downsize or close down. At the same time, the county also has 806,000 square feet of big-box industrial space under construction. The county’s vacancy rate rose to 5.4 percent in the first quarter of the year, up from 4.4 percent in the first quarter of 2007.
