Foreclosures up, say credit counselors

Consumer Credit Counseling Services offices are seeing plenty of clients who are on the verge of losing their homes, and the nonprofit is doing its best to help. Counselors in South Florida CCCS offices say there’s been a shift from helping people restructure credit card debt to larger numbers of people trying to avoid foreclosure, or have piled up credit card debt by using card to cover their mortgages. Initial steps to warding off the loss of a home include a complete inventory of debt and contacting one’s mortgage company to begin negotiations to prevent foreclosure.
