River zoning battle flows along

The City of Miami seeks to cut zoning protections along the Miami River, but the state is battling back. The Florida Department of Community Affairs filed several objections to the city plan to eliminate provisions for the marine industry along the Miami River, saying proposed comprehensive plan amendments lack a broad vision for development along its banks and could leave it vulnerable to piecemeal residential development. Miami River Commission, Miami-Dade County and the South Florida Regional Planning Council have all objected to the current plan.
