Home starts perk in second quarter

Palm Beach and Martin counties saw increased new home starts in the second-quarter, but St. Lucie County saw a drop, according to a report from research firm Metrostudy. Palm Beach County saw 489 single-family home starts in the second quarter of 2008, up from 353 starts in the first quarter. In Martin County, builders began construction on 77 homes, up from only 27 in the first quarter. In St. Lucie County, once an epicenter of the housing boom, there were 60 home starts in the second quarter, down from 95 in the first quarter.
