Unemployment in Florida remained at 6.6 percent in September, the worst
level since 1994, the state’s Agency for Workforce Innovation said
Friday. About 613,000 people are out of work statewide, above the
national jobless mark of 6.1 percent and 2.4 percentage points higher
than the state’s figure a year ago. Bruce Nissen, an economist with
Florida International University, expects unemployment to increase at
the end of the year, and cautions about premature overconfidence in
a recovery.
