Miami Mayor Manny Diaz said the $700 billion U.S. government bailout package aimed at helping Wall Street is doing its job, but it’s time for Main Street and its workers to get some help. He spoke at the Urban Land Institute conference in Miami Beach. Diaz, president of the U.S. Conference of Mayors, is lobbying Congress for an economic stimulus package that would pump $60 billion to $70 billion into local government and the private sector to create jobs and stimulate economic growth within a 12-month period. Diaz couldn’t specify when it would kick in, saying that would depend on Congress’s approval.
