North Miami mayor faces foreclosure

North Miami Mayor Kevin Burns faces foreclosure on his three-bedroom
house, on which he owes more than $279,000. Burns, whose house will go
up for public sale in January if the money isn’t paid, sponsored a city
council resolution this week asking the Miami-Dade County courts to
create a mortgage foreclosure diversion program that will help people
stay in their homes. Burns said he gave up his real estate business
to focus on the mayoral job, for which he earns $48,000 per year. He
lives in the house with his partner and seven-year-old daughter.
