Home values fall in third quarter

Home values nationwide fell 9.7 percent in the third quarter, compared to the same period last year. It is the seventh consecutive quarterly decline in home values, and nearly one-third of Americans who sold a home in the past year lost money. The year-over-year decline for the second quarter was less dramatic at 8.8 percent. Home values have fallen 12.8 percent since the market peaked in 2006.
