Divorcing couples fight over who doesn’t get the house

As the real estate market deflates, divorcing couples have
stopped fighting over who gets to keep the house and are instead fighting
because neither spouse wants it. As they go underwater on their mortgages,
divorcing homeowners are having trouble sorting out their financial situations,
and some are abandoning their properties to foreclosure. Others have opted to continue
living together platonically because they cannot sell their houses for the
original purchase price, causing problems for their children, divorce lawyers
said.
