Bankers’ groups urge holiday foreclosure halt

The Florida Bankers Association and Florida Credit Union
League asked their members today to put a freeze on new foreclosure petitions
and foreclosure sales for the next 45 days. Florida had 166,600 homes statewide
impacted by foreclosures in October, and the number of people coming in for
foreclosure counseling has spiked. Jessica Cecere, president of the non-profit Consumer
Credit Counseling Service of Palm Beach County/Treasure Coast, said homeowners
should use a 45-day foreclosure freeze to work with lenders to save their homes
or to investigate other options.
