City hall may become university campus

Pembroke Pines City Hall may be redeveloped into a 20-acre campus for
Keiser University, which currently occupies a shopping center near
Pines Boulevard and Flamingo Road. According to a tentative deal city
commissioners approved yesterday, Fort Lauderdale-based Keenan
Development Group will pay $14.5 million for the city hall complex and
redevelop it. With the proceeds from the deal, the city plans to build
a new city hall on city-owned land next door. The city and the company
need to work out zoning and permit issues before the deal is finalized.
