Bargain hunters start zeroing in on state

Folks who want to live in Florida are finding that the time is right to move to the Sunshine State — as long as they come from healthier housing markets. Rates as low as 5.05 percent for Florida buyers who qualify are an added inducement. Low rates are credited with helping to spur a 17 percent increase in Brevard homes sales in December 2008 compared to December 2007. Refinancing is also on the rise. Dan Overstreet of Atlantic Mortgage in Satellite Beach said many clients are refinancing from fixed rates over 6 percent, and are often paying off a variable-rate home-equity line, with a new fixed loan at less than 5 percent interest.
