The South Florida Regional Planning Council voted 13-1 to send the Davie Commons project ahead to the Department of Community Affairs, despite adding that the project was “inconsistent” with the area’s regional plan. If it goes forward, the project, containing 1.1 million square feet of high-end retail space, 885,000 square feet of office space and a 300-room hotel, is slated to break ground in two years and create 2,000 construction jobs. Officials in neighboring Weston have complained that the project would ruin their city with gridlocked roads. They promised to file a lawsuit if necessary to stop the project.
