Water shutoff looms for beleaguered condo

Deerfield Palms condominium in Deerfield Beach is so far behind on monthly maintenance fees that it faces a water shutoff by March. Of the 168 unit owners, only 28 are current on their maintenance fees, and the complex is $90,000 in arrears to the city. Deerfield Beach needs a nearly $13,000 payment to keep water flowing, officals said. Associations with unpaid utility bills also are an issue in Coral Springs, Lauderhill, Boca Raton and Tamarac, and the problem is likely to spread as joblessness and foreclosures keep climbing.
