Mortgage applications rise, interest rates fall

Mortgage applications nationwide increased for the first time in three
weeks due to low interest rates, according to Mortgage Bankers
Association data released today. The group’s index of mortgage
applications increased 11.3 percent for the week ending March 6.
Interest rates for a 30-year fixed-rate mortgage averaged 4.96
percent.
