The department store operator is rethinking renovations to its downtown Miami store, with management seeking proof that it can increase annual sales by $20 million. Macy’s Florida President David Scheiner told a Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce committee discussing the future of Flagler Street that the sales boost was critical to its planned $20 million renovation and consolidation of its downtown location. Miami city officials have been trying unsuccessfully to persuade Macy’s to make a major investment in its downtown store, which critics feel is dated in its physical surroundings and merchandise.
