The 1912 chapel building at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Coconut Grove, Miami’s oldest church building, has been demolished despite the efforts of local preservationists. The church plans to build new classrooms and a commercial retail building on the chapel site, which had not been used as a church for decades. St. Stephen’s Pastor Wilifred Allen Faiella said that the church received a demolition permit in January.
