Hotel tax drop slows

March hotel tax receipts in Miami-Dade County showed the worst slide for that month on record, but the 22 percent drop represented a slower than expected rate of decline. That’s not recovery, but it’s better than the 23.6 percent slip from January to February. A stronger dollar and ongoing recession have cut into tourism throughout the state. An upcoming travel wholesale convention in Miami will serve as a leading indicator for the upcoming season’s prospects.
