Foreclosure process could begin for Dania Beach Hotel

Dania Beach’s special magistrate has upheld the city’s decision to begin the foreclosure process against the Dania Beach Hotel. The hotel closed in 2002 and faces more than $72,000 in code enforcement fines. The City Commission earlier this year agreed to waive the fines if the hotel’s owner demolished the building, where homeless people and squatters were living, by May. But the owner failed to take the building down, and the city now plans to file for foreclosure. Demolition costs were estimated at $110,000.
