Auditors reported that contractors stole as much as $750,000 from the Broward school district through unnecessary work and inflated bills for portable classrooms deployed after Hurricane Wilma. The 2005 storm inflicted damage to schools across the county, but an investigation shows that AshBritt, a national disaster recovery company based in Pompano Beach, should return $765,608 to the district. District auditors will also ask the state, the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Internal Revenue Service to continue investigating.
