Homeowners should think twice before paying money to any company that offers to help them avoid foreclosure. Consumer advocates warn that financial pressures can encourage panic and rash decisions. The Florida Attorney General’s Office, which is investigating at least 81 complaints of mortgage fraud, warns that homeowners should consult their lenders first before paying any third party for help. Call the Florida Attorney General’s fraud hotline at 1-866-9-NO-SCAM or file a complaint online at Myfloridalegal.com if you believe you have been victimized. The complaint will be reviewed by the Attorney General’s Mortgage Fraud Task Force.
