Palm Beach architect’s design in Philly fight

A Bryn Mawr, Pa., house designed by Palm Beach architect Addison Mizner is in the middle of a preservation battle in this Main Line suburb. The 1929 house, a Spanish Castle design known as La Ronda and complete with towers and turret, is reportedly the last of Mizner’s designs north of the Mason-Dixon line. The new owners, who bought the house in March for $6 million using a specially formed corporation that did not disclose their identities, applied for a demolition permit. Lower Merion Township Commissioners put a 90-day moratorium on the demolition on June 3, leaving preservationists a shrinking window in which to raise funds.
