New state financial regulator named

J. Thomas Cardwell is Florida’s new as commissioner of the Office of Financial Regulation, succeeding Don Saxon 11 months after he resigned in a scandal involving criminals in the mortgage industry. Governor Charlie Crist and the state cabinet appointed Cardwell, an Orlando lawyer and former CEO of the law firm Ackerman Senterfitt. Critics said his ties to the banking industry may limit his effectiveness. He steps into the job August 30.
