State Rep. hits foreclosure

Miami State Representative Erik Fresen, a contender for the Speaker of the Florida House in 2014, stopped making mortgage payments a year ago and his house is in foreclosure. The matter goes before a Miami-Dade County judge Tuesday, when pre-trial motions between Fresen, a Republican from Miami’s District 111, is contesting the suit brought by JPMorgan Chase. The lender says the politician owes $615,000, but Fresen counters with the claim that he’s being double-billed for more than $10,000 in property taxes. Fresen, 33, is seen as a rival to Orlando Republican Chris Dorworth in the next term for the speakership. Dorworth’s business troubles, which resulted in a $2.7 million judgment against him, mean he could face foreclosure.
