Construction jobs fall

The latest findings by the Associated General Contractors of America shows South Florida’s construction industry lost 15,100 jobs over the past year, dropping the sector to two-thirds of its peak size in 2006. The group said Miami-area construction-related jobs were down 14 percent from August 2008, while Fort Lauderdale saw a 17 percent decline. Florida lost 66,300 jobs over the year, putting the total construction workforce at about 110,000. At the height of the boom, 166,600 people worked in the industry according to the association’s report.
