Payment problems often remain after loan help

Although both public and private sectors are working to assist homeowners with troubled mortgages, bank regulators reported that more than half of mortgage aid recipients fall behind on payments again. The federal Office of the Comptroller of the Currency and the Office of Thrift Supervision said Wednesday that over 50 percent of homeowners whose loans were modified fell behind payments within a year. The report covered about 60 percent of existing home loans.
