HUD head announces $60 million in new housing aid

On a tour of South Florida, Housing and Urban Development secretary Shaun Donovan announced $60 million in additional federal funds to pay for national housing counseling and counselor training. Florida will get at least $1.2 million of the funding supplement. Donovan made the announcement in front of a pale pink house in Miami Gardens, a property that was be refurbished with money from the Neighborhood Stabilization Program. South Florida got $161 million in funds for the program, aimed at preventing urban blight by recycling foreclosures into the hands of first-time home buyers. [Miami Herald]
