Freddie says it may need aid — just not now

Although Freddie Mac reported a $6.3 billion third quarter loss Friday, it says that it doesn’t need any federal assistance at the moment, marking the second straight quarter that it has eschewed a financial aid request. This could change in the future, however, as the company said that rising unemployment could force it to request government aid in the future. Sibling government-funded institution Fannie Mae requested $15 billion in aid on Thursday, bringing the total amount of federal assistance the two institutions received to $112 billion over the last year.
