Garry Souffrant, pastor of God First Ministries in Miami Gardens, and his wife, Yvonne, have been convicted in a $7 million money laundering and mortgage fraud scheme, and each now faces five to 30 years in prison. The Davie residents were tried in Miami federal court on charges of conspiring to defraud banks and launder drug traffickers’ profits to buy more than a dozen residential properties in South Florida and Georgia from 2002 to 2008. They used their family business, Progressive Real Estate of Broward, to help drug traffickers buy homes and luxury automobiles. Sentencing is scheduled for Feb. 2, 2010. [Miami Herald]
