Medina to leave Regions Bank post

Angel Medina, the South Florida group president for Regions Bank, a Birmingham-based regional banking powerhouse, will resign from his post within weeks, the South Florida Business Journal reported. Medina’s departure will be the latest in a string of leadership changes at the bank, which has been severely weakened by its loans to Florida real estate projects. Regions lost $437 million in the third quarter. Medina has served in his role since 2006, before which he was Regions’ president for Miami Dade County. He joined Union Planters Bank in 2000, before it merged with Regions Bank as the Alabama institution expanded through acquisitions. On Dec. 31, Regions Financial CEO Dowd Ritter announced his resignation, effective March 31. Grayson Hall, the current president and COO, will take over the helm. [SFBJ]
