Southeast remains big retirement draw

A recent survey by the United States Department of Agriculture’s
Economic Research Service shows high interest in the Southeast as a
retirement destination. Baby boomer migration to the
region is expected to continue through 2020, the survey said. About 87 percent of respondents said they
were interested in southeastern states. In even more promising news for Florida, where
construction has plummeted, 44 percent of respondents were seeking a new
custom-made home, and half of all respondents wanted a 2,000- to
2,500-square-foot home. The findings were showcased at the recent Live
South Real Estate Show, held on consecutive weekends in King of
Prussia, Pa.; organizers said attendance this year exceed 2009
numbers. TRD
