Commercial real estate industry “could stand a little more diversity,” NAR profile shows

This year’s National Association of Realtors’ commercial member profile revealed what most in the industry already know: the vast majority of commercial real estate pros is white (89 percent) and male (74 percent). Their average age? Fifty-six. “The profession could stand a little more diversity,” Realtor Magazine online editor Brian Summerfield wrote last week, following a NAR subcommittee meeting in Washington, D.C. to discuss the profile. While talk centered largely around attracting a more varied, youthful crowd to commercial real estate through social media, Summerfield argued that the industry “should focus more on the message than the medium” in luring new talent. [Realtor Magazine]
