New home sales jump 15 percent in April

The rate of new single-family U.S. home sales jumped 14.8 percent during the month of April, coming in at a seasonally-adjusted 504,000 homes per year, according to a report by the U.S. Census Bureau and the Department of Housing and Urban Development, released today. Last month’s new home sales rate was also 47.8 percent above that of April 2009, when homes were selling at a rate of 341,000 per year. At the end of April, the median sales price for new homes was $198,400 and there were 211,000 left on the market — a five-month supply. TRD
