Miami has not yet seen any of the Gulf oil spill, but it had its own
scare this weekend, with 20 million gallons of sewage flowing into Biscayne
Canal. Although the flow has been stopped, a 72-inch sewer break near
NW 18 Avenue and NW 157 Avenue poured the sewage into Biscayne Canal. A
public advisory has been issued, warning the public to stay away from
swimming and other activities in Biscayne Bay north of the Julia Tuttle
Causeway. The Department of Health and Environmental Resources
Management are testing the waters. TRD
