Two Miami-Dade residents convicted in $21 million mortgage fraud scheme

A federal jury in Miami has convicted Miami Springs resident Mayelin
Salas and Miami resident Lucy Segurola for their participation in a $21
million mortgage fraud scheme, the office of U.S. Attorney Wifredo
Ferrer announced today. According to the evidence presented at trial,
Salas worked for State Mortgage Lending in Doral. The two were alleged
to have participated in a scheme to create fraudulent HUD-Settlement
Statement Forms, which intended to inflate the true prices of properties
Salas was purchasing. The defendants face a maximum prison sentence of
20 years, along with fines and restitution. TRD
