Law firm Shapiro & Fishman is objecting to Attorney
General Bill McCollum’s probe
into alleged foreclosure-related
offenses by several South Florida law firms, calling the probe
politically motivated and excessively broad. The firm filed a motion to
quash a subpoena for information in Palm Beach County Circuit Court. The
attorney general’s office’s economic crimes division is looking at the
firms after complaints that they fabricated documents to hasten the
foreclosure process for their lender clients. McCollum is a Republican
candidate for governor. “It’s awfully coincidental that the subpoena is
filed on the eve of the election,” said Gerald Richman, who is
representing Shapiro & Fishman. [Palm
