PBC passes property tax increase

Commiission Chair Ben Aaronson

The Palm Beach County Commission has signed off on a 9.3 percent
increase in the county’s property tax rate, backing off a last-minute
effort to reduce the county’s spending plan. By a 4-to-2 vote, the
property tax rate went to $4.75 per $1,000 of taxable value, up from
$4.34 this year. The budget takes effect on Friday. Only commissioners
Steven Abrams and Jess Santamaria dissented in the vote. At the new
rate, the owner of a $200,000 home with a $50,000 homestead exemption
would pay $712.50 in countywide taxes. [Palm
