Sunshine State Insurance proposes 25 percent property insurance rate hike

Sunshine State Insurance Company will be questioned today by Florida
regulators over its request to raise rates by an average of 25 percent
statewide. The company’s policies cover homes, condo units, renters and
rented or vacation homes. Sunshine is among the top 25 largest home
insurers in Florida, with almost 74,000 policies, including about 12,000
homeowner policies in the tri-county area. Last week, the state set
rates for Citizens Insurance
, a state-backed company. [Sun
