Despite September being the regional hotel industry’s typically toughest
month, rates and occupancy at South Florida hotels rose across the area
last week, compared to the same period in 2009, according to Smith
Travel Research. Occupancy in Miami-Dade grew to 59.3 percent from 52.9
percent, along with similar increases in Broward, where it rose to 53.6
percent and Palm Beach County, where occupancy went up to 46.4 percent.
Miami-Dade County still boasted the region’s highest hotel rates, at an
average of $109.17, up from $105.69 in the same seven-day period in
2009. Broward County’s rate went up to $83.84, and the rate in Palm
Beach County went to $91.66. [SFBJ]
