A square Gehry concert hall in Miami Beach

The New World Symphony’s new space in Miami Beach is a veritable pastry
by architect Frank Gehry, replete with a whipped-cream metal roof. The
new home of the 23-year-old symphony, which cost $160 million to build,
is white-plaster on the outside and curvy on the inside. The stage is
big enough for a major symphony hall, able to hold 100 musicians and 756
audience members. But thanks to a $13 million park outside the hall,
visitors can watch the ongoing concerts as “wallcasts” on a large
projection screen on the side of the building. The curves inside the
hall were designed with the participation of Tokyo-based Nagata
Acoustics.
